Embracing Versatility: Three Stylish Ways to Wear Your Beach Sarongs - AOBA

A sarong can be tied three practical ways beyond simply wrapping it around your waist: as a waist coverup, as a full dress, and as a headscarf. Each method uses the same rectangle of fabric differently, which is the whole point of owning one sarong rather than several single-purpose beach accessories.

The waist coverup is the simplest and most common. Hold the sarong horizontally behind you, bring the two adjacent ends around your waist, and tie them in a secure knot at the side. This works as a quick throw-on over a swimsuit for the walk between your towel and the water, or as a relaxed daytime layer over shorts or leggings. Because the knot sits at the side rather than the front or back, it stays out of the way when you sit down or walk.

The sarong dress takes a bit more folding but no extra fabric. Hold the sarong vertically behind your back and tie the two adjacent ends behind your neck, halter-style. Then gather fabric at the center of both hemlines, bring it to the front, and tie it around the side of your waist. Adjusting how much fabric you gather at that waist knot controls both the length and how fitted the dress reads, so you can go shorter and tighter or longer and looser with the same sarong depending on the occasion.

The headscarf method is the least obvious use but the most versatile for non-beach days. Fold the sarong lengthwise into a long strip, then tie it around your head with the ends draping over your shoulders. It doubles as sun protection for your hairline and scalp on long beach days, and works just as well as a styling accessory away from the water.

AOBA's sarong collection is designed with exactly this kind of multi-use styling in mind, in fabrics light enough to move through all three ties without losing shape, so one sarong can reasonably replace a cover-up, a packable dress, and a hair accessory in your beach bag.
